Help me choose an investment product
Before deciding on the type of investment that Irish Life can offer, you need to consider the following questions. These questions should help you to make sure you pick the right investment to suit your needs.
Are your thinking about investing for five years or more?
If you are thinking about investing for 5 years or more, then you should consider investing in our NEW Protected Advantage Bond. This 6 year bond invests in an Irish Government Bond, which provides the capital protection at the end of the investment term, and the Advantage Fund, which provides the potential growth on top of the capital protection. The Advantage Fund invests in a mix of shares and fixed interest bonds. The Protected Advantage Bond gives you control over your investment through a unique combination of capital protection together with the potential for higher returns. You will also have access to your money at any stage however there will be an exit charge applied for this and your capital protection amount will be reduced to reflect any withdrawals you take.
Are your thinking about investing for five years or less?
If you're thinking of investing for five years or less, then you should consider investing in a tracker bond. You will invest for a fixed period - say 5 years - with access to the higher potential returns of stock-markets. Please note you won't have to access your money during the investment period. Depending on the tracker option available at the time you may receive a fixed return on a set date and the remainder of your money will remain invested. Alternatively you can choose an option that will invest the full amount until the maturity date.
If you think you might, or you're only thinking about putting your money by for a short-while, it sounds as if a deposit account is really what you need. For details of a great range of deposit options, contact your local permanent tsb branch.
The capital protection provider on each product may vary. You should refer to your product booklet for full details on the capital protection provider. This capital protection can be provided by Irish Life or by a third party Financial Institution with whom we have a business agreement.
Is safety your number 1 priority?
If you're thinking more about what you could lose than what you'd like to gain, then you might want to invest in either a tracker bond option or our Protected Advantage Bond. With these products you get some of the upside when investment markets grow but none of the downside if they don't. These products cater for both medium to long-term investors. These are great ways for the cautious investor to dip their toe in the water.
Or, is the opportunity for a higher return more interesting?
A tracker bond or our new Protected Advantage Bond are great ways to invest if security is your main priority. However investing in an option without capital protection, for example in a fund that invests in property or shares will give you the opportunity for higher growth but also carries a higher risk. If that's what excites you, or if you specifically want to invest in shares or property, then you should consider Select. Select offers a number of funds with varying levels of risk and potential return.
Have you invested before in assets that can go up and down in value?
If you have, Select could be right for you. If you have no previous experience of investing, you need to first consider how much of your overall portfolio that you should invest in Select. If you think that you would have difficulty sleeping if your investment was to fall in value at any stage, then Select may not be right for you.
There are a wide range of different fund options in Select. Click here for details.
