Launch of Irish Life Health creates compelling alternative for health insurance customers
New health insurance company to grow through a focus on innovation and customer value
Monday 29 August: A new health insurer has entered the Irish market today with the launch of Irish Life Health. The new entity has been formed following the acquisition of Aviva Health along with Irish Life acquiring 100% ownership of GloHealth The new company will give customers an innovative and compelling alternative to the existing health insurance offerings.
With the combined market share of the two companies, Irish Life Health will have 21% market share and 425,000 customers. It plans to build from this strong position by offering innovative, great value health insurance plans and exceptional customer service to Ireland’s two million health insurance customers.
Jim Dowdall, Managing Director, Irish Life Health said that Irish Life Health will be the recognised benchmark for health insurers in Ireland. “The two companies which will be combined as Irish Life Health are recognised as being the most innovative in the market. It is the intention of Irish Life Health to continue to lead the market with relevant customer focussed innovations in the months and years ahead that will ensure our customers will have access to the most relevant health insurance cover for their needs. Our focus is on ensuring that our customers just pay for health cover that is relevant to them. We are moving health insurance from just being viewed as a safety net in the event of illness to becoming a platform that enables our customers improve their overall health and wellbeing. With Irish Life Health our customers will be able to take greater control of their health, by using the innovative benefits and services available to them,” he said.
All of our customers will be communicated with this week to introduce the new company and reassure them that they don’t need to do anything. They can continue to avail of all of the benefits in their plans the same way they have to date. Aviva Health customers will see their policies rebranded as Irish Life Health and from later this year GloHealth customers will start to be invited to join Irish Life Health as their policies come up for renewal.
Irish Life Health will benefit from the strong expertise that exists in the Irish Life Group – a company and brand that has been trusted by Irish people to look after their financial services needs for over 75 years.
All 160 employees of Aviva Health and GloHealth have moved to the Irish Life campus on Abbey Street, Dublin 1 where the Irish Life Health offices are located.
