Protection benefits and group risk cover through your employer

Your employer may provide eligible employees with group risk cover protection benefits as part of your employee benefits package. You may have some or all of these:

  • Group life assurance cover
  • Group income protection cover
  • Group critical illness benefit.

Group life assurance cover

What is group life assurance?

Group life assurance is also known as a group death-in-service scheme. Employers can help provide financial security to their employees’ families if an employee dies while in service.

Peace of mind for employees

This benefit offers peace of mind to employees, knowing their loved ones will receive financial support if the worst happens. The employer pays the premium, and group life assurance is a tax-free benefit for the employee.

Easy, automatic cover

With our group life assurance cover, non-medical limits mean you are automatically insured up to an agreed limit when joining the plan without having to complete any health questionnaire or medical exam.

Partial income if you can’t work long term

Group income protection provides you with a partial replacement income if you experience long-term illness or a disability while employed, (subject to meeting certain criteria specified under the rules of the plan). Having this financial support can offer comfort during a stressful time.

Additional recovery support

Irish Life’s group income protection policies include early intervention support, rehabilitation services and supportive return-to-work plans. Your employer pays the premium, so you receive valuable protection as part of your employee benefits package.

Cover without health questionnaires

With our group income protection cover, non-medical limits mean you are automatically insured up to an agreed limit when joining a group risk income protection scheme. You don't have to complete a health questionnaire or undergo a medical exam.

Pension contributions can continue

You can continue to make pension scheme contributions while receiving a claim payment, so you can save for retirement and plan for your future.

Group critical illness cover

Critical illness cover explained

Group critical illness cover is also known as specified illness cover or serious illness cover.

Cover for you and your child

If you or your child is diagnosed with one of the specified illnesses we cover, you will get a lump sum payment. Children aged 0-25 are included in your policy cover for free.

Financial support when it matters

A lump sum payment can help ease the worry during life’s upheavals; there will be financial support if you or your child becomes ill. The lump sum is typically tax-free, providing genuine value from your employer's workplace benefits scheme.

Automatic cover, no medical questionnaires

Some employers choose to include the employee’s partner in the policy cover so more of your family members may be covered. With non-medical limits, employees get automatic cover up to a certain amount when they join the plan. No health questionnaires or medical exams needed.
