Building a better future
Letting the Light in
A roof-lit central atrium brings in natural daylight and high-efficiency, daylight-dimmed LED lights shut off automatically if a workspace hasn’t been active in over 15 minutes.
Smart Water Usage
Rainwater harvesting systems, as well as low-water-usage sanitary fittings in all toilet, shower and kitchen areas, were implemented. Native plants and mindful landscaping remove the need for watering plants.
Mindful Energy Management
An A3 Energy Rating was achieved through features such as intelligent heating and cooling systems and high-performance glazing on windows. A large photovoltaic panel array feeds electrical energy back into the building systems and reduces its demand on the local electricity network.
Commuter Friendly
Electric car charging spaces, hybrid car spaces, and car-pooling spaces provide more sustainable travel options for employees alongside 20 bicycle racks and 5 showers on site.
A Better Working Environment
Glass facades and open-plan office areas provide employees with a relaxing view of the outdoors. A fully fitted staff gym enhances staff fitness and wellbeing. And different working areas, including break out zones and individual pods, allows for more flexible working.

Maintaining a Sustainable Workplace
Tracking Our Emissions
Abbey Street campus carbon emissions data is submitted to a carbon reduction project which scores and benchmarks how we are performing on energy reduction. We are pleased to report that we are seeing improvements each year.
Environmental Policy
The Environmental Group’s policy is on display our Dublin campus and is widely communicated as part of yearly staff training and as part of the annual contractor confirmation process.
ISO 14001:2015
ISO 14001 is an internationally recognised Environmental Standard which we have held since 2010 for Block 3 (the main building) We further extended the scope to include Abbey Court in 2016 and Block D in 2018. We have since successfully transitioned to IS014001:2015. An Annual Audit is carried out each year by an external company.

Reporting
CDP requests information on climate risks and low carbon opportunities from the world’s largest companies on behalf of over 590 institutional investor signatories with a combined US$110 trillion in assets.
Through its CDP reporting, Great-West Lifeco has demonstrated commitment to sustainability across operations, risk management practices, and in assessing the exposure of its investment portfolio to a broad range of climate-related risks and opportunities.
Great-West Lifeco’s annual response to CDP’s Climate Change Questionnaire details our commitment to understanding and proactively addressing the potential impacts that climate change may have on our business.

Biodiversity
Consideration Towards Flowers
Irish Life has consulted with beekeepers and biodiversity experts to lengthen the season of nectar availability in our landscaping.
Landscaping
Nutrient-depleting hedges in our landscaping have been replace with nectar-rich plants such as Nepeta, single roses, and provide colour as well as attracting pollinating insects.
Bug Hotel
We introduced a Bug Hotel and welcomed beehives to our Abbey Street and Dundalk campuses and produced our own honey for the first time in 2021
Our Beehives
Our hives in Dundalk can host approximately 40,000 bees and each beehive has a queen bee associated to it.
